I'm keen on hiring a cottage by the sea or in the country for week commencing (approx) 22 December for 7 days. There seems to be cottages available during Christmas week for ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£350-ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£450. This would be for a 4 bed property (a double and twin room in most cases) The costs could be split three ways or, if funds are low ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£200 for a couple and ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£150 for me (for a ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£350 property). I can't really afford more than ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£150. Obviously if a 4th person wants to join in the festivities the costs would be lower.

Naturally the northern half of the country is best as the trip back to Edinburgh for Hogmanay will be a shorter and cheaper one. Lincs, Norfolk and Suffolk would be ok as I could travel down but would need a cheap rail ticket and/or a lift back to Edinburgh if New Year is going to be spent there.

I'm assuming that Christmas bookings will not be Saturday to Saturday as usual because of Christmas Day falling on a Saturday. Most seem to be booking from 22 December.
Something like [this] is rather nice [although not luxurious] on the Mull of Kintyre for ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£375 for the week.
I really like [this]. Two minutes walk from the beach in the beautiful little coastal village of [Alnmouth] in Northumberland. ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£365 for the week. It is still available. Beds for three only.
I'm quite happy to do this. If Rob and I did come; we can't afford much more than ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£200 between us; although the two you like look good. We can obviously give you a lift back to .ed assuming you're inviting us up for hogmany :-)
I return from Spain on the 18th; so we can't start sensibly before the 22nd either.
I'm basing the ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£200 on me needing to buy all the other stuff. Even though we're not mad on gifts; xmas manages to be expensive for us :-) A four-bed one and inviting a girl (I guess that means Lesley) might be a nice option though.
Cool. I need to know if Lesley is interested then because the Alnmouth cottage is only three bedded. I've already been told that is available for the dates we require. If Lesley does want to be included we need to find another cottage in the area which accomodates 4.
Edit: Lesley can't justify spending the money atm so it looks like the three of us. I'm surprised that any cottages are available in Alnmouth as it's a very popular destination spot for tourists at all times of the year. Shall I reserve it? Btw, the little town of Alnwick is 4 miles away and has all the usual amenities, including a supermarket for bulk food shopping.
THE FINAL COST

That's it. No more costs for the cottage. All heating fuel and electric/bedding etc costs are included. Alnmouth is off the A1 and 84 miles south of Edinburgh.

Excellent. I've emailed them back so will finalise tomorrow. Money due in the next week or so (it's 6 or 8 weeks before I think) Just pay your bit of it into my bank account asap and I'll pay it all in one lump sum.
All booked. Details will be sent in due course. They have requested a ﾃｯﾂｿﾂｽﾃつ£50 cheque to hold in the office for damage [in case we trash the place during the Christmas party] I will send them one as I don't anticipate them having to cash it :-) It gets returned after the holiday.
