Co-Pilot notes for Daniel

The following issues exist:

  1. Loss of favourites etc, when the map is replaced under the feet of the software using Central.
  2. Intermittent and unpredictable re-routes during driving (without live traffic), some of which result in a progress bar stuck at two or three blocks.
  3. No facility to rotate display the other way, which makes it harder to use when in a RHS-drive car.
  4. On HTC desire, if you rotate the phone while copilot is loading, you get a black screen and two subsequent rotations were needed to bring the display back.
  5. If you have a trip planned and then think "meh, I just want to go home" and press "my places" "home" "go", then the app still routes the planned trip, not a simple route to "home"
  6. The Master Volume setting never seems to be saved above a certain point.
  7. Safety camera alerts are barely comprehensible in landscape mode on an HTC desire, with various of the information overlapping other bits.
  8. When picking multiple points from a map for a route, the map keeps resetting to the current position rather than remaining at the last selected position.
  9. When planning a route, it is madness to have to include the start point. It should simply default to the current GPS position, or "home" if GPS unavailable. By all means allow a start position to be specified instead, but do not require it.
  10. The Safety Camera warning box self-cancels at approx 110yards from destination. This means that it is useless when on a twisty country road. The point of the safety camera warnings is to tell you where drivers might be being idiots; this is worthless if it self-cancels three blind bends before the camera.
  11. Waypoints seem to self-cancel within approx 1 mile. This makes them useless when using them to navigate a particular route around a suburb or similar. (e.g. visiting N people's houses in close proximity.)
  12. Live traffic warnings do not indicate their potential delay in the main UI anywhere.
  13. CoPilot? Central -- I don't have the NA Maps, Why is it offering me the NA maps update?

The following usability issues exist:

  1. When "Home" is my destination, it is very counterintuitive to not press 'destination' in the main menu. Migrate the "home" "work" "recent" and "favourites" to the destination menu and then turn the "my places" menu into a favourites editor would make a lot more sense.
  2. The "back" button often kills the entire menu structure, rather than moving back one step like the "go back" button sometimes does in the menus.
  3. The compass is transparent and insufficiently configurable. It is very hard to tell at a glance what direction you're travelling in. It needs to be made solid and have a thicker arrow on it, and have North always be at the top. (or options to make it such)
  4. The Detour menu could do with a "travel via" which opens the destination menu and inserts a waypoint on the trip
  5. The lack of "travel to contact" on normal android phones is a pity -- it would not take a lot of heuristics to find postcodes and house numbers in most addresses.
  6. Find-on-map could do with being able to "find" an address, favourite, etc and then move from there.
  7. When setting day/night map modes, it would be handy to be able to adjust the brightness of the display so that at night I am not blinded by my copilot.
  8. When driving with live traffic updates, often the device will report "Traffic problems" audibly when the issue has already been brought to the driver's attention.
